Silvia Levenson è una signora argentina che da qualche anno abita a Lesa.

Silvia Levenson è un'artista che attraverso le sue opere in vetro, zuccherose e leggere, fa affiorare la parte più
tenebrosa della società contemporanea: emergono chiodini dalle sue leziose scarpette infantili, traspaiono lamette dalla glassa delle sue torte nuziali, i canotti, gli abiti pastello delle sue installazioni denunciano attraverso il vetro la nostra fragilità e rigidità mentre sulle comode poltrone casalinghe stanno sospesi minacciosi coltelli assassini, coltelli di vetro drammaticamente sbanalizzanti del quotidiano.
Dopo essere sfuggita alla dittatura argentina, Silvia è venuta a vivere nei primi anni Ottanta in Italia, a Vigevano, con la sua famiglia.
Costanza, sensibilità, originalità, talento e leggerezza hanno fatto sì che nel giro di vent'anni i suoi pezzi fossero esposti in moltissime gallerie d'Europa e del mondo e che ne rimanessero impigliati alcuni in vari musei, come quello, per esempio, acquistato dal Museo d'Arte Moderna di Houston o come quello acquistato dal Museo del Vetro Corning, a Corning, New York. Un pezzo, invece, si è fermato nella casa di Elton John, decisamente il più famoso dei suoi acquirenti!
Da diversi anni Silvia tiene anche corsi -invitata a farlo da scuole e università: a Bolzano, Chicago, Buenos Aires, in Australia- non tanto sull'arte del vetro quanto sul vetro in arte. Perchè non è l'aspetto artigianale e decorativo del vetro che le interessa, per quanto le sue opere colpiscano a prima vista per la loro bellezza formale, ma la capacità di medium che questo elemento -fragile ma anche duro, aguzzo e tagliente ma anche plastico e polimorfico- possiede.
Non è da molto, invece, che da Vigevano Silvia si è trasferita a Lesa, in un bel loft con annesso laboratorio poco distante dal lago. Quando non è in giro per il mondo per accompagnare i suoi pezzi in musei e gallerie, è qui che torna ed è qui che crea e di tanto in tano organizza dei corsi. Silvia Levenson is an artist who through her glass works, sugary and light, lets the murkiest side of contemporary society float to surface: small nails coming out of her mawkish childish shoes, razor blades from the icing of her nuptial cakes, small rowing boats, pastel clothes. Her works at installations denounce through glass our fragility and rigidity while over comfortable home armchairs menacing slaughtering glass knives are suspended by dramatically undoing the banality of everyday lives.
After having escaped Argentinean dictatorship, Silvia arrived in Italy in the early ‘80s, in Vigevano, with her family.
Thanks to perseverance, sensitivity, originality, talent and lightness, her artwork in twenty years has been exhibited in numerous European and world galleries, and some got entangled in various museums, as, for example, the one purchased by the Museum of Modern Art in Houston or the one bought by the Corning Museum of Glass, in Corning, New York. An artwork got stuck in Elton John’s house, definitely the most famous among her art buyers!
Silvia has also taught courses – invited by schools and universities: Bolzano, Chicago, Buenos Aires, Australia – not specifically on glass art as on glass in art. It is not the decorative and handicraft aspect of glass to interest her, even if her works catch you at first sight for their formal beauty, but the capacity of the medium that this element – fragile but also hard, sharp and cutting as much as plastic and polymorphous – holds.
Silvia has recently moved from Vigevano to Lesa, in a nice loft with an annexed workshop, little distant from the lake. When she is not touring around the world to accompany her artwork in museums and galleries, it is here that she creates and once in a while organizes her courses.
